Tra Que Village – Herb and Vegetable Farming

Tour Summary

-Established 300 years ago and surrounded by Đế Võng river, the first citizens of Tra Que had first lived on fish catching. Gradually, they took advantage of the river seaweed for vegetable manure. Since that time, Tra Que locals spend their lives on growing the best vegetable which is delivered to all Hoi An’s restaurants and households. Nowadays, Tra Que village, known for the organic vegetables and the herbs grown in the area

-Located 3 km away from the center of Hoi An, Tra que  is well-known as the only freshest and cleanest vegetable supporter for Hoi An local foods. You can easily get there by motorbike, bicycle or simply a light walk.

This village has a perfect location between the old town of Hoi An and An Bang beach.

-What makes Tra que village special is no chemical or toxic used in the plant growing process. It is to guarantee the best quality of vegetables. With a short visit to Tra Que, visitors can see firsthand how the farmers grow vegetables in their own ways.

-Tra que villagers are always proud of their products, The shared that all herbs in Tra Que are made without toxic or chemicals. It also has a natural fragrant smell thanks to the seaweed manure from Đế Võng lake. In addition, the unique farming land has greatly contributed to the fame of Tra Que vegetable. Even though you take seeds to another village for growing, the quality is not as good as they are in Tra Que.

-According to a villager: “Tra Que vegetables have a good smell with small leaves because it only takes 20 days from the first day of raising seeds to harvest day. Each kind of vegetable relates to different food; for example, coriander is used for chicken rice, balut, salad,…

-Note that most foods in Hoi An focus on Ying-yang to balance the hot and cold inside a body. It means the amazing texture and rich nutrition of fresh vegetable in Tra que will revolutionize current standard of local foods in Hoi An.

Full Intinerary

-8:00 AM  (or 1:30 PM ).Tour guides will pick you up at your hotel to start the tour on bikes to arrive the banks of the Thu Bon River and visit the bustling Hoi An Central Market. Breathe in the heady fragrance of herbs and spices and admire the colorful silks as you shop. Learn to bargain for goods like a local, walking from stall to stall as your guide buys the ingredients for your meal later.

-9:00AM. After that you will continue the tour to Tra Que Vegetable Village, On the way you will go through picturesque countryside  roads  with the rice field, water coconut forest, shrimp or fish  farm...you will have opportunity to witness local Vietnamese rural life ,you can get up close and personal with the daily life of them. When we arrive, you will be given an introduction to the history of the village. This short lesson provides a lot of interesting information about the cultivation of vegetables and discovering their uses in traditional Vietnamese medicine. You will take a trip around the vegetable garden, The local famer will teach you  how to grow herbs, separate land for suitable herb type, water plant, then  join the farmers in preparing and fertilizing the land with seaweed from the local lake. Other activities will include: raking, sowing, picking greens vegetables and much more…Those who are not really good with their first-time farming still find plenty of joy during the process .

-11:30AM.After our time with the farmers, we will spend the rest of the last working the land until it’s time to prepare some special foods with a local family. When everything's ready, sit down and enjoy your meal together.

You will enjoy Tam Huu (“packed with pork, prawn, mint and coriander”), Vegetarian spring rolls , Banh Xeo (“rice flour, bean sprouts, shrimp and slices of pork - the local pancakes from the central region of Vietnam”) ,Steamed rice  serve with fish ,Sauteed morning glory with garlic and Seasonal fresh fruit  also be on the menu .This tour gives you an authentic glimpse into the traditional lives of the people in this village.

-At 12: 30 PM (or 6PM if you do in the afternoon)  we biking back to your hotel
